Project description

The appealing architectural design, covered platforms and the high-quality finish of all functional areas create a modern ambience. The new World Cup railway station fully meets the needs of commuters as well as the requirements of international guests in the World Cup community of Seefeld. The ÖBB Infrastruktur AG, the state of Tyrol and the municipality of Seefeld were project partners in the realisation of all measures.

The following measures were implemented for this purpose:

  • Barrier-free design of the railway station with renovation, adaptation and redesign of the reception building (which is a listed building)
  • Tactile guidance system (grooved tiles on the floor, tactile station information)
  • Construction of a barrier-free, bright pedestrian subway with 2-passenger lifts
  • New rail line with 2 tracks in the future with installation of a crossover – around 2,000 metres of new track, 1,700 new sleepers and 4 switches were installed for this purpose
  • Construction of two new railway crossings
  • Construction of two new peripheral platforms
  • Construction of a combined roof for Platform 1 and the bus terminal
  • Construction of a platform roof on Platform 2
  • Installation of new tracks from the Andreas-Hofer-Straße to the fire station car park
  • Construction of a bus terminal south of the reception building
  • Redesign of the station forecourt as a meeting area
  • Revitalisation of the listed station building incl. redesign of the WC facilities
  • Construction of a mixed-use Park&Ride facility north of the reception building
  • Construction of a Bike&Ride facility including covered bicycle parking spaces

In addition to maintaining railway operations during the construction work, careful planning that took the listed building status into consideration was a particular challenge. The entire railway station is protected as a listed building against major alterations. In order to still be able to offer railway passengers a contemporary station design, the reception hall, for example, was underpinned by reinforced concrete support beams. The underpinning measures, which are now hidden, made it possible to install an optimally positioned pedestrian subway.
